Beyond Serving Tables: Davao Mission Holds Cluster 6 Officers' Convention

SPAMAST, Malita, Davao Occidental | Al Ray Lazado

MALITA, Davao Occidental — Nearly 200 church officers within Cluster 6 gathered recently at the Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST) for the Davao Mission's (DM) ongoing series of officers' conventions under the theme: "Grounded in the Bible, Focused on the Mission."

The day began with a morning devotional led by Pr. David Bornales, DM Executive Secretary, who centered his message on the powerful example of servant leadership found in Acts 6. Drawing from verses 1-2, he reflected on the apostles' declaration: "It is not desirable that we should leave the word of God and serve tables."

The devotional explored the historical and linguistic depth of the word "table"—derived from the Latin tabula, signifying not just furniture but a place of transaction, record-keeping, and distribution. In the early church, to "serve tables" meant to handle the practical, administrative needs of the growing community, a task so vital that it required dedicated officers so the apostles could devote themselves to prayer and the ministry of the Word.

Far from diminishing the role, the passage elevates it. The appointment of deacons in Acts 6 was not a demotion but a divine delegation—a reminder that every role in the church, whether spiritual or practical, carries sacred weight. Pr. Bornales pointed to Acts 6:7 as the proof: "Then the word of God spread, and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly." When every member faithfully fulfills their calling, the mission advances.

After the morning devotion, participants proceeded to breakout sessions organized by department. Adventist Youth leaders, church clerks, deacons and deaconesses, Sabbath School superintendents, treasurers, and elders met separately to receive practical guidance and discuss their specific roles in local church ministry.

Adding a warm, communal touch to the gathering, the brethren of the Malita Central Church prepared and cooked lunch for all delegates and attendees which was served at the church compound. After which, everyone returned to the SPAMAST Gym for the open forum and the conclusion of the convention, fostering fellowship alongside spiritual nourishment.

The orientation reminded participants that no role in the church is merely administrative. Whether serving tables or leading a department, every act of service, when done for God's glory, becomes part of the Great Commission.

The Cluster 6 gathering is part of the Davao Mission's continuing effort to equip local church leaders for effective, biblically grounded ministry. The final leg of the series, the Cluster 7 Officers' Convention, is scheduled this March 1, 2026, and will bring together church officers from congregations in the Island Garden City of Samal. The venue for the concluding convention will also be in the Island Garden City of Samal.

Daystar Caregroup Strengthens Faith Through Family Visitation

Tugbok, Davao City | Bjezrel Labajo

Tugbok, Davao City — Demonstrating its commitment to nurture spiritual fellowship and Christian love, the Daystar Caregroup conducted a family visitation on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, as part of its ongoing mission to visit, worship, and celebrate God’s goodness with its members.

The caregroup members gathered at the home of Pastor Elmer Arrogante in Tugbok for a meaningful time of worship and encouragement. The visitation was led by Pastor David Bornales, Davao Mission’s Executive Secretary and the caregroup leader, who served as the devotional speaker for the occasion.

In his message, Pastor Bornales centered his reflection on the Sabbath School lesson titled “Think on These Things,” drawing inspiration from Epistle to the Philippians 4:7–9. He emphasized that true inner peace comes from living in harmony with God’s will. Quoting the apostle Paul’s counsel to focus on things that are true, noble, just, pure, lovely, and of good report, he reminded the family that a Christ-centered mind leads to a Christ-centered life.

“The peace of God is not merely the absence of problems,” Pastor Bornales shared, “but the presence of God ruling in the heart.” He encouraged everyone present to guard their thoughts and anchor their lives on God’s promises, assuring them that divine peace will sustain every household that faithfully walks with Him.

The worship service included heartfelt prayers and special music offered by the caregroup members, creating an atmosphere of spiritual warmth and unity. The family expressed gratitude for the visit, noting how such gatherings strengthen their faith and sense of belonging within the church community.

Caregroup visitations play a vital role in building strong spiritual relationships among members. Beyond fellowship, these visits provide encouragement, accountability, and an opportunity to minister not only to individuals but to entire families. By coming together in prayer and worship, members reaffirm their shared commitment to support one another in their Christian journey.

The Daystar Caregroup continues to uphold its mission of compassionate ministry, reflecting Christ’s love through personal connection and faithful service.

Davao Mission Revives Pathfinder Tradition, Inspecting Character and Camaraderie

Davao Mission Headquarters, Bajada, Davao City | Al Ray Lazado

29.jpg

DAVAO CITY, Philippines (Feb. 6, 2026) — For the first time in over a decade, the sound of marching feet and the focused silence of knot-tying exercises returned to Seventh-day Adventist elementary schools across the Davao Mission territory. The Mission's Semi-Tactical Inspection, held from February 2 to 5, 2026, evaluated the readiness of Pathfinder and Adventurer clubs in four schools, marking the revival of a cherished tradition dedicated to the holistic development of pupils.

The inspections were conducted by a team of five education leaders: Education Superintendents Cheryl Lin-ao-Hodge (Davao Mission) and Emalen Anilao (Northern Davao Mission), Principal Naomi S. Javier (Sahmyook International Academy), Education Director Pearlyn P. Panes (Southeastern Philippine Union Mission), and retired Education Superintendent MG Crisolito C. Cabrera (North Davao Mission). The team brought a wealth of experience to assess the clubs' comprehensive preparations.

The inspection criteria covered the core of Pathfinder and Adventurer life, including fancy drill formations, problem-solving unit drills, band presentation, knot tying, first-aid bandaging, a theoretical exam, and the organization and readiness of each club's officers' center—the command hub for young leadership.

The event sparked palpable excitement, with teachers and students engaging in more than a month of dedicated preparation. Club directors noted that afternoon breaks and personal time were willingly dedicated to perfecting drills and mastering skills throughout January.

Beyond the evaluation, the inspection became a poignant school event. It served as an unexpected window for reconnection, as some current parents—who were once Pathfinders themselves—returned to campus. They witnessed their own children undergoing the same formative experience, now being inspected by the very same teachers who had instructed them years ago.

The revival of this program addresses a core need within the church’s education ministry. The Semi-Tactical Inspection is designed to foster personal developmental growth, discipline, and deep camaraderie among students—key pillars of the Pathfinder and Adventurer program’s motto, “The Love of Christ Compels Us.” By building skills in leadership, teamwork, and service within this spiritual-recreational context, the program nurtures well-rounded individuals.

A total of 676 students from Grades 1 to 6 participated across the four inspected schools:

Davao City SDA Elementary School of Davao Mission, Inc.

Royal Valley SDA Elementary School – Bangkal, Davao City

Royal Valley SDA Elementary School – San Jose, Digos City

Royal Valley SDA Elementary School – Rizal Avenue, Digos City

This inspection serves as a preparatory benchmark for the clubs. The experience and feedback gathered will guide their training throughout the year in anticipation of the full Tactical Inspection planned for the 2026-2027 school year.

The return of the Semi-Tactical Inspection at our elementary schools stands as a meaningful highlight of the event, marking more than just a routine activity. It embodies a renewed commitment to nurturing character, fostering a sense of community, and instilling dedication in our young students. By celebrating this tradition together, we ensure that the values of discipline and readiness for service are passed on, empowering the next generation to grow and thrive within our school environment.

A wonderful opportunity was given to the Seventh-day Adventist Church when Pr. Jaffet Legario, Davao Mission (DM) Communication and Public Affairs Director, attended the 6th regular session of the Sangguniang Panglungsod (SP) of Davao City and was asked to introduce briefly some of our programs for the community and gave a prayer which was appreciated by the chamber. This happened today, February 10, 2026 at the SP Session Hall, San Pedro St., Davao City.

This event was initiated by Carl and Faye Santillan, when their request to give Bible Stories and The Great Controversy Books to the city councilors and their respective staff was warmly accepted. With Pr. Legario, they were with Pr. Elmer Arrogante, DM Health Director, Mr. and Mrs. Sammy Clifford of the Publishing Department and Joshua Flores of Hope Channel.

Before the session started, Faye, after given the nod, distributed the The Great Controversy Books to each of the councilors and to the SP staff. Then, after the opening part of the session, the group, through Councilor Temujin “Tek” Ocampo, was acknowledged. After Pr. Legario’s prayer, the presiding officer, Hon. Bereans Care Group Spreads Hope Through Literature at Davao Global Township

Davao Global Township, Davao City, Davao del Sur | Al Ray Lazado

On a late afternoon in Matina, Davao City, members of the Bereans care group—composed of some administrators, directors, and office staff of the Davao Mission of Seventh-day Adventists, Mission Foods production employees, and Hope Channel workers and volunteers—gathered at Davao Global Township for a meaningful literature outreach activity. Their mission: to share The Great Controversy (Ang Dakung Away) with the public and engage in brief conversations with those they met.

The idea for the outreach emerged during one of the group’s Wednesday care group morning devotionals, where their reading emphasized the value of tract and literature ministry. Inspired by the message, the members organized a distribution activity to bring hope-filled reading materials to the community.

The group was led by Raymund C. Robles, Treasurer of the Davao Mission of Seventh-day Adventists. The Bereans arrived slightly past 4 p.m. carrying three boxes—96 books in total—consisting of two boxes of the English edition and one box of the Bisaya version. Each book included a bookmark with contact information, inviting readers to send prayer requests, ask questions about the material, or tune in to Hope Channel Radio 104.3 (DXMA).

Some members initially worried as dark clouds hovered over the Talomo mountain range, hinting at rain. Fortunately, the weather held, allowing the group to proceed with the outreach uninterrupted.

The township was lively that afternoon. Families were out for strolls, groups gathered for bonding, and several individuals were jogging through the open spaces. With many people around, the Bereans were able to distribute all their books within just 30 minutes.

A memorable moment came when a group of young students approached the volunteers, curious about what they were distributing. After a brief conversation, the Bereans discovered that the students were having their own small “worship” gathering in the area. The interaction uplifted both groups, showing how simple acts of sharing can create meaningful spiritual connections.

Though brief, the outreach left a deep impression on the volunteers. They hope that the books—and the invitation extended through the bookmarks—will enrich lives, inspire reflection, and encourage deeper spiritual engagement among those who received them.

SPAC Theology Students Deployed for Mission Service in Mindanao

Davao Mission Headquarters, Bajada, Davao City | Bjezrel Labajo

“Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.” — Isaiah 6:8 (KJV)

DAVAO CITY — In a spirit of dedication to gospel service, 18 AB Theology students from South Philippine Adventist College (SPAC) were officially deployed on February 2, 2026, at the Davao Mission Headquarters, marking the beginning of their On-the-Job Training (OJT) immersion in frontline ministry.

The students will serve for three and a half months across three mission territories: Davao Mission, Southeastern Caraga Mission, and Northern Davao Mission. They will be assigned to various churches and districts where they will gain hands-on experience in pastoral and church leadership work.

This deployment is more than an academic requirement — it is a sacred calling in action. As part of their field exposure, the student missionaries will engage in church visitations, evangelistic efforts, district coordination, and local church support. They will also observe and participate in different strategies used by pastors and leaders in nurturing congregations and advancing the mission.

Leaders emphasized that the training will help the students understand the realities of ministry — balancing spiritual leadership, administrative responsibilities, and personal discipleship. The immersion allows them to witness firsthand how God’s work moves forward in diverse church settings.

Ellen G. White highlights the model of ministry these young workers are preparing to follow:
“Christ’s method alone will give true success in reaching the people. The Saviour mingled with men as one who desired their good. He showed His sympathy for them, ministered to their needs, and won their confidence. Then He bade them, ‘Follow Me.’”
— The Ministry of Healing, p. 143

As these theology students enter the field, they are not only learning methods but embracing Christ’s way of service — compassionate, personal, and mission-focused. Their deployment reflects the Adventist Church’s commitment to preparing workers who are spiritually grounded, practically trained, and ready to proclaim the gospel.
Church leaders and members are encouraged to pray for these young missionaries as they answer God’s call, trusting that this season of training will shape them into faithful shepherds for the Lord’s harvest.

Davao Mission Ministerial Couples-
Retreat, Recharge, Refresh

Adventist Training Center, Lake Sebu | Pastor Jaffet Legario

48 workers and wives of Davao Mission were exuberant and jovial after enjoying a 3-day retreat at Adventist Training Center, Lake Sebu, South Cotabato on November 9-12, 2025. They were made up of 37 couples and 9 singles including those who were not able to bring their spouses with them.

Ma’am Emelyn Merin under the Family Life Department spearheaded this event and Pastor Lito Magsico, the Ministerial Secretary. The administration and department directors were in full support of that program which was aimed at boosting marital relationship of the couples and of the entire Davao Mission family.

The games started on early afternoon of Sunday, after almost all participants arrived. Laughter would erupt from time to time as they enjoyed team building activities and ball games, cluster against cluster. While most of them were already good in their favorite sports, it was wonderful to see newbies trying other sports for the first time, with their spouses and fellow cluster members cheer for them. But nothing beat the basketball game of the women, divided into two groups, and played the game with all their heart, unmindful of basketball rules and regulations. Their scrambling and accidental shoots lifted their husbands off their seats the entire game.

Precious principles of marital relationship were integrated through the morning and evening devotionals, delivered by our able Mission leaders. A tour of the scenic Lake Sebu was an additional blessing to this event.

An awarding ceremony culminated the retreat on Wednesday morning, were clusters 5 and 6 got the championship award. But the highlight was in the relationships of the ministerial couples strengthened, as well as of the entire Davao Mission family. And as they left that beautiful place car after car, there was in their hearts a deep appreciation of that event, and the longing to have it again in the near future.

Davao Mission | Mrs. Charity Allarse

The Children’s Ministries Department joyfully started the year by joining the worldwide 10 Days of Prayer, with children across Davao Mission actively participating under the inspiring theme “The Spirit is Unleashed.”

It is truly heartwarming to witness children, even at their early age, seeking the presence of the Holy Spirit. Through their talents, they dug deep into the Word of God, interacted with one another in fellowship, and spent precious time with Jesus—our Best Friend. Their enthusiasm and sincerity remind us that the Spirit of God is at work in the lives of the young, shaping them to be faithful disciples and joyful servants.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Children’s Ministries leaders who guided and nurtured these young hearts, and to the parents whose unwavering support continues to cultivate a love for Jesus in their children. Together, we are raising a generation that not only loves the Lord but is also eager to serve Him with gladness.

Though the official dates were January 7–17, many children and families continue to lift their voices in prayer even now—showing that the Spirit truly remains unleashed in Davao Mission, through the voices, prayers, and lives of our children.
