Bereans Care Group Spreads Hope Through Literature at Davao Global Township

Davao Global Township, Davao City, Davao del Sur | Al Ray Lazado

On a late afternoon in Matina, Davao City, members of the Bereans care group—composed of some administrators, directors, and office staff of the Davao Mission of Seventh-day Adventists, Mission Foods production employees, and Hope Channel workers and volunteers—gathered at Davao Global Township for a meaningful literature outreach activity. Their mission: to share The Great Controversy (Ang Dakung Away) with the public and engage in brief conversations with those they met.

The idea for the outreach emerged during one of the group’s Wednesday care group morning devotionals, where their reading emphasized the value of tract and literature ministry. Inspired by the message, the members organized a distribution activity to bring hope-filled reading materials to the community.

The group was led by Raymund C. Robles, Treasurer of the Davao Mission of Seventh-day Adventists. The Bereans arrived slightly past 4 p.m. carrying three boxes—96 books in total—consisting of two boxes of the English edition and one box of the Bisaya version. Each book included a bookmark with contact information, inviting readers to send prayer requests, ask questions about the material, or tune in to Hope Channel Radio 104.3 (DXMA).

Some members initially worried as dark clouds hovered over the Talomo mountain range, hinting at rain. Fortunately, the weather held, allowing the group to proceed with the outreach uninterrupted.

The township was lively that afternoon. Families were out for strolls, groups gathered for bonding, and several individuals were jogging through the open spaces. With many people around, the Bereans were able to distribute all their books within just 30 minutes.

A memorable moment came when a group of young students approached the volunteers, curious about what they were distributing. After a brief conversation, the Bereans discovered that the students were having their own small “worship” gathering in the area. The interaction uplifted both groups, showing how simple acts of sharing can create meaningful spiritual connections.

Though brief, the outreach left a deep impression on the volunteers. They hope that the books—and the invitation extended through the bookmarks—will enrich lives, inspire reflection, and encourage deeper spiritual engagement among those who received them.
